At yesterday’s Highlands Sky Trainer we beat the 90% predicted rains for a fine run on the first half of the course. There were a few winter blowdowns that need cleared out and the smell of spring ramps were in the air. The three stream crossings were running full and chilly. We gatherered at Matt Young’s Laneville camp for a warm bowl of post run soup. Thanks Matt.

While many WVMTR’s were running through the very wet and wrocky trails of Dolly Sods, Bradley Mongold and Paul Davis were hammering the competition in VA at Bel Monte. Bradley came in first overall in the 50M setting a new course record and Paul ran a very impressive time on a tough 50K course coming in 3rd overall. Way to go guys! Full results will be posted here.

Hillbillywill Potts and Bobby-G “Gillandez” both set PR’s at the 2009 Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach.

Potts and Gillanders at 2009 Shamrock
Gillanders went out fast with the 3:10 pace group and and never looked back. He made a break from the group around mile 21 and set a Marathon PR in 3:06.
Potts sauntered for the first 5 miles enjoying the sights and sounds of the big city before deciding it was time to run a marathon. He was able to fire the twin turbo diesels during the second have to run a PR in 3:17 good enough for a trip to Bawston in 2010.
After the race Hillbillywill and Bobby G were spotted frolicking in the grass like school girls on spring break.
Both runners note that they could have not set PR’s without the support of their lovely ladies Lisa and Julie.

Perfect running conditions for the 2009 Haven In The Hardwoods 5k this year. Sunny skies for this first day of spring. The course along the old railroad grade was muddy in places, but the stream crossing was low and could be negotiated without even getting wet. All had a good time and enjoyed the Maple Syrup Festival that was going on all around us.

Robert Gillanders and Bill Potts are on their way home from sunny Virginia Beach very satisfied. They both had PR’s at the Shamrock Marathon today running 3:07 62nd place and 3:17 157 place respectively in a field of 2524 runners. Bill said conditions were perfect and they will be heading to Boston in April 2010 for their little road race. I guess we won’t be seeing them on the trails for the next year! Congratulations Guys.
Bill Gentry has led various pace groups at the Shamrock for many years. This year it was the 4:15ers who he helped bring to the finish line in exactly that time. That Gentry learned a lot while running at WV Wesleyan in Buckhannon!
