Helvetia 10k Mt Run Results & Photos

Published by at 9:45 pm under Uncategorized

DSC04827Runners and walkers of all ages, both veteran Helvetia Mt Runners and first time adventurer’s, enjoyed a cool morning jaunt through the woods of Randolph County today.

The racing started with the Kids Run that included the youngest participant I can recall, 2 year old Hazel Jackson. The future trail runners took a 1/4 mile loop through the village. All safely made the crossing of Troll Bridge without mishap. DSC04836

Finish awards were distributed while proud parents and eager 10k runners applauded the young runners accomplishment.

Forty-four runners took out of town for the figure 8 course that starts with a fairly level 2 mile section. From mile 2 to 4.5 the course climbs 750′ to the ridge and then begins the descent back to Helvetia. There was some jockeying of position over the next 40 odd minutes, but in the end two Preston County runners took the moment. Bruceton Mills runner Heather Parks was first to cross the finish running a 43:24, and Ron Hamric, also of Bruceton, was second at 44:17.

Everyone enjoyed the post race homemade cookies, snacks and fruit. Awards were hand-crafted wooden kitchen tools by Allegheny Treenware. Other awards and prizes were provided by the Hutte Restaurant, Hammergel, Zombierunner.

If you care to write a race report we would all enjoy hearing it.

  • My wife, Mary Ellen, is an experienced runner, having done ultras and Boston Marathon 2 or 3 times… this was my first running event of any kind…

I only started walking up on the Skyline Drive, near my home, back in April… one day… while in boots, and jeans… I decided to run part of the down hill… pretty soon… I was doing my 3 mile loop in trail running shoes…and began to run the downhills and flats…

Mary Ellen encouraged me to start running a few times a week…and after a month or so of struggling to walk up hill 2 miles…and running back… I finally got to the point where I could run a little of the up hill…. so…

Long story short… I have only been over 5 miles 3 times before this race… and Helvetia was my first 10K…. I really enjoyed the event….

I have a long way to go…but was pleased that I finished this 10K… and hope to make it back next year… and sorry that my wife wreck her race by tagging along by my side, but I was glad to have someone keep my pace realistic… I have so much to learn…

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Lehmann for such a wonderful event!

Great job Mark. You picked a good group to start with, these guys are really fun and keep you motivated.

Lehmann’s. Thanks so much for a great wknd. Your home is awesome and your hospitality was second to none as always. Greg would say that Willie’s contribution to the evening was quite the catch as well. We had a great time and the race was really fun. Thanks again for everything. It’s always great to get to hang out with everyone.
