I received the following from Gerry Hong. Although trail running is somewhat of a minimalist sport when it comes to gear, we do enjoy discussing and donning new footwear.
Hi there,
My name is Gerry Hong, and I am a grad student at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. For my master’s thesis project I am studying what matters to runners when they look for a new pair of shoes, and was wondering if I could ask your help.
I discovered the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners on RRCA.org, and was hoping you could ask your members to complete a brief, 5-minute survey which asks them about their running shoe habits. My 5 teammates and I are offering a $300 gift certificate to one person who completes this survey, and your group’s insights would be incredibly helpful to us in completing our thesis.

The Motley Trail Crew
It was a beautiful day in the WV Highlands yesterday to do some trail maintenance. Since several of the trails that make up the Highlands Sky course are part of designated Wilderness, it was hand tools only for this hearty crew. Don’t let the little ones in the picture fool you. We start them out young in the WVMTR club with trail work and even earlier with trail running. . .

Brief Description:
The course is beautiful, some good hills. There are a number of stream crossings, and just a few rocky areas. VERY runnable. Maps will be available day of the event, and the entire trail will be clearly marked. We get great reviews from runners.

12th Annual Run. Sanctioned by USA Track & Field. Race begins at 7 AM Race day sign ups on Friday evening & begin at 5:30am Saturday. All registrations on line at active.com Limited to 220 participants. Free bbq chicken dinner after the race for all runners. Lots of free flat camping space. Saturday breakfast available for purchase. Completion awards for all runners. Special awards for first man/woman and top ten only. . Time Limit – 8 hours
