South Middle School Bike Club Fund Raiser 2012-2013

Published by under Uncategorized

The South Middle School Bike Club in Morgantown WV rides monthy after school on single track and rail-trails in Monongalia and Preston Counties. Last year the club had 33 student members, eighteen of which were special education students. the club is an opportunity for many children to get their only chance during the school year to be involved in extr-curricular activities. The club often has to provide equipment, helmets and post ride food for these 6th through 8th grade girls and boys. The club also provides club t-shirts for the club members to exhibit their “identity” as members in our school of over 700 students. This year sign-ups are exceeding 50 individuals and our expeditures of over $750 appear to also be rising. As an avid trail runner and club sponsor , as well as, South middle teacher I am running the three days of the West virginia Triolgy to raise CENTS per mile. Doing so will eliminate the need for bike club members going door-to-door to sell items no one wants or needs. I want the kids to enjoy the freedom that mt bike riding provides without having to solicit funds. “Let the kids be kids”. The following further explains how you may also be involed. Cheers! Mark SOUTH MIDDLE SCHOOL
2012-2013 Fund Raiser

The South Middle School Bike Club is having a fund raiser to secure funds for equipment, snacks, travel expenses, and for any unforeseen eventuality for the 2012-2013 school year.
This fund raiser is a pledge drive. The Club asks that you consider pledging cents per mile for miles completed by the Club sponsor, Mark Thorne, in his attempt to complete the West Virginia Trilogy in October 2012 at Spruce Knob. The Trilogy is 3 days of trail runs:
Day 1 — 31 miles, Day 2 — 50 miles, and Day 3 — 13.1 miles.
Total 94.1 miles.

You may pledge any amount you like; for example, if you were to pledge 10 cents per mile your donation to the Club would be $9.41. If you were to pledge 25 cents per mile your donation would be $23.53. Any amount donated is appreciated.

Pledges are needed before October 1st as the run begins October 12th. Donations can be accepted after completion of the run as well. Checks can be made to South Middle School w/memo for bike club and mailed to: South Middle School, attn: Bike Club, 500 East Parkway, Morgantown WV 26501. Cash can also be accepted, but be certain to include your name and a way to contact you.

With the support of donors, this event raised over $900 last year.
In advance, thank you very much for supporting the South Middle Bike Club and its endeavor to ride happily.

Message from race organizer, Brandon Merritt:
Thank you for helping me raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association as part of Team Run 2 Remember at this year’s New York City Marathon!  My goal is to raise over $5,000.  Please check out my donation page on the web at and find out why I am running in honor of my Paw Paw, W.F. “Skeeter” Merritt, who passed away in May of 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
