AC Crew A & B Directions Day 1
Thursday, August 30, 2007

The white County Road maps are accurate with the exception of the road up the Greenbrier River from Durbin that Crew A will travel. The map shows it not going through, but it does. I have re-marked it correctly. I have shown portions of the AC route in red on this map too. You also have a copy of the topo map the runners are carrying.

CR is a County Road, FS is a Forest Service road.

There is no cell phone coverage beyond Mill Creek and Elkins. There is a clinic and EMS in Durbin and Mill Creek.

From Start Crew A & B go back to Rt. 250 in Mill Creek. .

Crew A turn left on 250 S. There is a gas station and store w/ice in ½ mile on right. There also an Exxon in another mile.

Crew B turn right on 250 N to Elkins. Stop at Subway in the Valley Pointe shopping center and pick up the subs. Later in the day when Crew A passes you give the subs to them to take to the finish.

Crew A to Aid #1

From Mill Creek take Rt. 250 S 10 miles to the top of Cheat Mountain. Turn left on FS 92, go 6 miles to Crouch Run (at 5.5 miles you will cross the course where we will come up on left, cross FS 92 and pick up Whit Meadow Trail on your right). Turn right down Crouch Run, go about 3.2 miles. When you are almost to Shavers Fork there will be a rough road on your left, FS 49A I believe, maybe gated. This is Aid #1. We will be coming up from Shavers Trail. Runners have come 10.3 miles and it is 13.7 to Aid #2.

Crew A to Finish

Go back to Rt. 250 S turn left and go approximately 11.8 miles to Durbin. At the bottom of the mountain, shortly after crossing the Greenbrier River, turn left on Highland St. Go a very short distance to FS 44 on left and start a long, beautiful drive up the Greenbrier River. Keep left staying with the Greenbrier for 19 miles. Use odometer and do not take right turns at 7, 9.9, 11.5, 11.9, 15.5 miles, just keep left staying with the main river. At 17.3 miles reach the top of the watershed and start down the West Fork of Glady. You should encounter Crew B at Aid #2 in 1.7 miles. Get the sub sandwiches from them.

From Aid #2 continue 3.9 miles north on West Fork Road to T. Turn right. Pass gas compressor station and cross East Fork of Glady in 2 miles, do not turn up Glady but go straight another 2.2 miles to the top and Middle Mt. Road, FS 14. Bear right on FS 14 and go 0.3 miles to left off the hill. Go 1.5 miles down to Laurel Fork Campground. Turn right to upper end of campground. Grab 3 or 4 campsites. See map.

Crew B to Aid #2

From Subway continue into Elkins and take Rt 33 E to Alpena. At Alpine Shores Restaurant turn right on CR 27 Glady Road. It is 9.5 miles to Glady. Turn left, go ¼ mile, turn right on West Fork Rd CR 27/2. Continue 3.9 miles to the High Falls Trailhead on the right.

Eventually Crew A will come by from opposite direction. Give them the subs to take to the finish. Have one yourself too.

Crew B to Finish

Go back 3.9 miles north on West Fork Road to T.

AC Crew Directions Day 4
Sunday, September 2, 2007

This is going to be an easy day for you, relax and have a second cup of coffee. We will need a short ride to the start. If I can locate a drivable route to the Hall Spring Road to set Aid 4/1 we will have one there, otherwise there will be only one aid station at 4/2 below.

Crew A To Aid 4/1 Tentative

Take Rt. 33 E over Shenandoah Mt into VA. Look for road on left at the base of the mountain. It might be called Long Run Road. This should climb up the east side of Shenanndoah Mt and intersect the Rough Run road runners will be climbing from the west side. Watch for a silver tractor trailer and set up around there.

Crew B To Aid 4/2

Take Rt. 33 E and just before the top of Shenandoah Mt pull into parking lot overlook on the right. Set up Aid.

Finish

Back down Rt. 33 W to Brandywine Lake on left. Runners will come through campground to lake.
