Appalachian Crossing
general information
|
The concept of the Appalachian Crossing is to traverse the eastern mountains of our State. We will start at the base of the western slope of Cheat Mountain and head east to eventually drop off the Allegheny Front to the Potomac Watershed and on to the West Virginia line at the top of Shenandoah Mt. We will cross the headwater forks of Cheat River, the Eastern Continental Divide known locally as the Lynn Divide, Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks, North Fork Mt., and the Potomac Valley. For the most part we will be on trails and woods roads within the boundary of the Mon National Forest. There are some sections of private land and some public roads particularly east of North Fork Mt. The trail sections are marked and signed, most of the FS roads are numbered. There are many of landmarks to help you along the way. Not to fear, you will be
traveling with at least one other running partner and you will have "The
Map". A
good sense of direction and the ability to read a map are however needed.
