West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners

The Cheat Mountain Moonshine Madness 50 Mile Trail Run is just around the corner!  Just two months out now and the applications are starting to roll in.  The race is shaping up very nicely and the trails are in good condition after a tough winter of downed trees in the high mountains.  We have some awesome Patagonia finisher’s shirts in the works with printed artwork from the best artist around (my wife) and some great locally made pottery for the top finishers; not to mention all the great prizes from all of our sponsors. 

If you are not planning on running, we are still in need of volunteers for several aid-stations and will need plenty of able-bodied runners to help mark the course with the chem-lights during the race.  If you are interested in helping, please contact me.  Remember, this is a CLUB race.  Any club members (or non-members for that matter) are more than welcome to help in any way.  We will need lots of volunteers to make this race happen!

Welcome to the 11th running of the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run. The race is held in conjunction with the 94th Annual Helvetia Fair. More information on Fair activities below.

In 1998 Jody and Dan Lehmann with the help of friends and neighbors organized this event in their small mountain community of Helvetia. It was their first attempt at race directing. The run and walk has never outgrown the village but continues to bring about 70 runners to enjoy the simple beauty of this spot in southern Randolph County. The Mountain State Trail Running Series standings are posted. The first three spring races are in the books and Ashley Dolin and Michael Bee are leading the pack. The scoring system takes uses points from your four best races and with four races left it isn’t too late to sign up. The next race is the very festive Helvetia 10K on Spetember 14th.

After a week of relentless rain the clouds parted for the 5th Annual Dirty Dog 15K Trail Run. Kanawha State Forest is a perfect venue for trail races and Saturday was no exception. The break in the weather gave the trails just enough time to drain, but left it nice and muddy. 144 humans and canines toed the line on Saturday to tackle the challenging course

Just three more weeks until the 6th running of the Highlands Sky 40M! If you’re thinking of signing-up, DO IT! You don’t want to miss out on running one of the most beautiful and challenging courses on the East-Coast. Also, I heard that Dan Lehmann has ordered up good weather this year.
