Kanawha State Forest

This 15k trail run is a challenging mix of single track mountainous trail and unimproved dirt road. The course includes two long climbs and several sections of rolling ridge lines. There are rocks, roots and wet stuff. Your “dogs” will get dirty! Aid stations stocked with water (for humans and canines) and sport drink (humans only) will be located at mile 2.2, 4.7, 6.5 and the finish. A selection of fruit and baked goods will replenish you at the finish. Lots of prizes for people and their dogs!
RUN WITH THE DOGS: Registered runners may run with their dogs during the race. Dogs and their runners must start in the back. Dogs must be on a leash for the first mile and stay within eyesight of the runner for the WHOLE race. Special Award to the Top Dog! Continue Reading »

Mark your calendar for the WVMTR 8th Annual Camp and Run Weekend. This club run was our first organized group run and the weekend continues to be a great get together. Traditionally, this event was held at Seneca Rocks with a run of the North Fork Mountain Trail. Last year Bradley Mongold and Adam Casseday’s epic run of the Allegheny Trail took them through Pocahontas County and Watoga State Park. Someone suggested that the club host the Annual Club Camp and Run weekend at Watoga, and the idea stuck. So this year we’re mixing things up!
Make your reservation early. We are limited to 70.
This year come to Watoga State Park to meet old and new friends, run on portions of WV’s Allegheny Trail, tube the Greenbrier River, fish for trout, bike on the rail trail, and enjoy a great potluck post run feast. There are lots to do for everyone, runners and non-runners. Hope to see all you new members out there! Watoga State Park’s 10,100 acres are located in the mountains of Pocahontas County just 14 miles south of Marlinton, West Virginia.
