Welcome to the 11th running of the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run. The race is held in conjunction with the 94th Annual Helvetia Fair. More information on Fair activities below.

In 1998 Jody and Dan Lehmann with the help of friends and neighbors organized this event in their small mountain community of Helvetia. It was their first attempt at race directing. The run and walk has never outgrown the village but continues to bring about 70 runners to enjoy the simple beauty of this spot in southern Randolph County. All proceeds go to benefit the Helvetia Community Fair Association. Continue Reading »

The West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners present the 6th annual Highlands Sky Trail Run.Bradley Mongold

The event is centered at the Canaan Valley Resort State Park. The point to point course traverses Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley through some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain in West Virginia. Dolly Sods is an area of high elevation, windswept plains ranging from 2500 to 4700 feet elevation. Trail terrain varies from woodland paths, rock and boulder, to upland bogs, through northern hardwoods at lower elevations, to Red Spruce and heath barrens above 4000 feet. Canaan is the highest large valley east of the Mississippi. The Valley creates the headwaters of the Blackwater River and has a unique environment composed of wetlands and uplands with vegetation characteristic of more northern latitudes. WVMTR is a permittee of the Monongahela National Forest.

Complete information can be found at the Highlands Sky 40M Trail Run site.

Highlands Sky Training Run

Laneville, WV

Here it is November 2007 and the winter snows are on their way. Hopefully March 29 will see the beginnings of spring in the high country. Once again we will do this Rite of Spring run on the first half of the Highlands Sky course.

We will meet at the Laneville Wildlife Cabin at starting point of the Highlands Sky race. There will be two distance options, 14 or 21 miles. The 14 miler will do the first 2500′ climb and 1800′ descent to the South Fork of Red Creek and then take FS 19 back to the start. The 21 miler will add the second 1200′ climb to Red Creek Plains and then to FS 19 back to the start. Both will end back at the Wildlife Cabin. You can check out the course at Highlands Sky Course Maps .

Weather can be very unpredictable on Roaring Plains. Bring appropriate clothing. This is not an easy run, but it is beautiful and will give you a feel for the Highlands course.

Directions
From Davis proceed south on Rt. 32. Pass entrance to Canaan Valley State Park and go 1 mile, turn sharp left on East Laneville Road and continue 5.8 miles to a gray metal bridge. The Start is just across gray metal bridge.
From Harman proceed north on Rt. 32. At 4 miles turn right on Bonner Mt. Rd, go 5 miles and T into Laneville Rd, turn right. Go 1.3 miles to gray metal bridge.

Please let me know if you are coming Dan Lehmann.
