Welcome to the second running of The Trilogy, a three day stage race through the Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area . . . a run across West Virginia’s highest hill . . . a run of days with friends.

These very special runs traverse the WV Highlands and her unique landscapes.  Runners who choose to experience this event will be rewarded with spectacular views of waterfalls, beautiful fall foliage, and breathtaking vistas that will be forever etched upon their hearts. Race headquarters will be The Mountain Institute’s 400 acre outdoor education facility in the shadow of Spruce Knob. Take a look at the links below to get a sense of the event which is presented by the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners in conjunction with The Mountain Institute.  Please contact us with any questions.

Please read all of this information.

  1. While the Trilogy is designed as a three day stage race, those wishing to run only one or two of the races may submit entries for individual races. See the Entry Form for more details.
  2. Race is limited to 100 participants. Entrants must be at least 18. Sorry, but there are no pets allowed at The Mountain Institute.
  3. Registration for the complete Trilogy, the 50k and the 50 mile closes September 28, 2012.
  4. Start Times:  50k on Friday 7:00am, 50 mile on Saturday 6:00am, Half Marathon on Sunday 9:00am.
  5. The time limit to complete the 50k is 10.5 hours.  There are no cutoffs.  The time limit to complete the 50-mile is 14 hours.  Cutoffs are at AS#4 (Horton – mile 33.6) at 3:30 pm (9hrs 30min) and AS#6 (Allegheny Mtn Tr. – mile 46.2) at 7:10pm (13hrs 10min).
  6. Trilogy 50K/50M/HM entrants will receive a Patagonia Cap 3 Zip Neck and a Run For The Hills Half Marathon cotton T and all meals.
    50k only entrants will receive a Patagonia Cap 2 Zip Neck and Thursday evening prerace meal.
    50 mile only entrants will receive a Patagonia Cap 2 Zip Neck and Friday evening prerace meal.
    Run For The Hills Half Marathon only entrants will receive a cotton T.
  7. There is also a Run For The Hills 5k on Sunday that starts with the Half Marathon at 9:00am. Registration and more information can be found here.
  8. Meals included with respective entries are:
    Trilogy- Thur, Fri, Sat pre-race dinners and light breakfasts, Sun light breakfast and post race lunch
    50k only- Thur pre-race dinner
    50 mile only- Fri pre-race dinner
    Half Marathon only - Sat pre-race dinner, Sun light breakfast and post race lunch
  9. Additional meals for runners or guests may be purchased for $10 each.
  10. Packet pickup for the Trilogy and individual 50k/50m/HM will begin at 4:30pm Thursday October 11 at the main yurt.
    Packets for the individual 50m/HM races may also be picked up on the evening before the race and for the HM beginning at 7:00am race day.
  11. There will be a brief prerace meeting at 7:00pm following dinner on Thursday as well as the following evenings.
  12. Awards for the Trilogy entrants will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd place men & women open, 1st place men & women 50 and over.
  13. Awards for the Run For The Hills will be 17 & under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
  14. There will be daily recognition awards for the 50k and 50 mile first place man & woman.
  15. Refunds will be granted minus $10 through 9/21/12.  No entry fees will be refunded after this date.
  16. Crew access will be limited to the aid stations outlined in the Course Description section.  For the safety and consideration of all participants, other aid stations or roads that runners will be on are closed to crew and vehicles.  Crew driving directions can be found HERE.
