New River Gorge Trail Run/Walk 2009 Results
This is all new to me: writing a post-race report, directing a race, and heck, let’s be honest, I really started racing just last year. But let’s take a stab. That’s kind of been my motto in all of this. I figured maybe Adam Stephens, of Marathon
Bicycle, and I would get about twenty runners on July 4th for the inaugural New River Gorge Trail Run. I am not kidding you when I say I almost had a panic attack when almost 50 people showed up. Fayetteville had been waiting for a race!
The feedback has been positive thus far and I am already thinking about next year. For 2010 I’m thinking all on-line registration, no disposable cups, and an added loop (in addition to the five miles) of 13.2 or 15 miles.
Adam and I are extremely grateful to the Town of Fayetteville and WaterStone Outdoors for their support. As well, WVMTR added its resources through the intellectual property of Dan! Next year, I plan to look for sponsorship early and have something to offer all participants.

This was my first trail run and now I am hooked. I am new to running as well (Sept. 09) and look forward to running more trails. Thanks Jessica and thanks to all who made this possible, including those who have worked to maintain the trail.
does this course follow the river at any point and how are the views/scenery? Thanks!
Angie, the course does not follow the New River. It does cross over Wolf Creek. There aren’t any views of the gorge if that’s what you’re thinking but it’s pretty lush, green, and thick at this time of year.
This was my first ever race above 1 mile, and it convinced me to run cross country last fall. Thanks for getting together a great race! I’m looking forward to running again this year with a little more experience under my belt.
Is this race on for 2011? Looking for a trail race in the New River Gorge area. Thanks.
This race is put on by ACE and they haven’t updated us on their plans for this year.
